Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon, diced

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) green beans, drained

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) chicken broth

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving a bit of the drippings in the pan.

  2. Sauté the onion in the bacon drippings until softened and translucent, about 3–4 minutes.

  3. Add green beans, chicken broth, brown sugar, and garlic powder to the pan. Stir well to combine.

  4. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook uncovered for 10–15 minutes, or until most of the liquid has reduced and the green beans are infused with flavor.

  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then stir in the cooked bacon right before serving.

Notes

  • For extra richness, stir in a tablespoon of butter at the end.

  • Use fresh or frozen green beans if you prefer – just blanch them first.

  • Great side dish for BBQs, potlucks, or family dinners.
