Description

This Southern Pea Salad Classic is a creamy, crunchy, and savory side dish made with sweet peas, crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, and a tangy mayo-based dressing. It’s a timeless favorite at Southern gatherings, potlucks, and summer cookouts!

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz) package frozen sweet peas, thawed

  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped

  • 4-6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely diced

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tbsp sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed peas, chopped eggs, crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar, and diced red onion.

  • In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream (if using), apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper.

  • Pour the dressing over the pea mixture and gently stir until well combined and evenly coated.

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to let flavors meld.

  • Serve chilled and garnish with additional bacon or cheese if desired.

Notes

  • For a touch of sweetness, add a teaspoon of sugar or sweet relish.

  • Can be made a day in advance—just stir well before serving.

  • Swap red onion for green onion for a milder flavor.
