Ingredients
-
1 lb ground sausage (mild or spicy)
-
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
-
2 cups whole milk
-
1/2 tsp black pepper
-
1/2 tsp garlic powder
-
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
-
1 egg (for egg wash)
Optional Add-ins:
-
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (for heat)
-
Chopped chives or parsley for garnish
Instructions
-
Preheat Oven:
Set oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet or pie dish with parchment paper. -
Make Sausage Gravy:
In a skillet over medium heat, brown sausage until fully cooked. Do not drain fat.
Sprinkle flour over sausage and stir for 1-2 minutes. Slowly whisk in milk and simmer until thickened. Add pepper, garlic powder, and optional red pepper flakes. Cool slightly. -
Assemble Pie:
Roll puff pastry to fit your baking dish or form a rectangle on the baking sheet. Spoon sausage gravy in the center, leaving a 1-inch border. Fold edges over or top with another pastry sheet and seal edges. -
Bake:
Brush pastry with beaten egg. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until puffed and deeply golden. -
Serve:
Let sit 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired.
Notes
-
For extra richness, add a splash of cream to the gravy.
-
Use spicy sausage for added kick.
-
Great as a breakfast-for-dinner option with a side of eggs.
