2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
-
2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
-
4 cloves garlic, minced
-
1/2 cup milk
-
2 tablespoons butter
-
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Mushroom & Onion Gravy:
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
1 onion, thinly sliced
-
8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
-
2 cups beef broth
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
2 tablespoons flour
-
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Make the Salisbury Steak:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 4 oval patties.
Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and sear until browned on both sides, about 4–5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
2. Make the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Add minced garlic during the last 5 minutes of boiling. Cook until potatoes are fork-tender (about 20 minutes total).
Drain, return to the pot, and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
3. Prepare the Mushroom & Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet used for the steaks, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and mushrooms and cook until softened and golden, about 8–10 minutes.
Sprinkle flour over the mixture and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring. Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for 5–10 minutes, until cooked through.
Notes
This dish can be made ahead and reheated. For extra flavor, use roasted garlic in the mashed potatoes. Serve with steamed vegetables or a side salad.
