1 cup cream cheese, softened
-
1/4 cup powdered sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
-
1/2 cup strawberry jam or preserves
For the Batter:
-
2 large eggs
-
1/2 cup milk
-
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
-
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
Butter or oil for frying
For Serving (optional):
-
Powdered sugar
-
Whipped cream
-
Extra strawberries
-
Maple syrup or strawberry sauce
Instructions
-
Make the Filling: In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
-
Assemble the Sandwiches: Spread cream cheese mixture on one side of each bread slice. On four slices, add sliced strawberries and a spoonful of strawberry jam. Top with the remaining bread to form sandwiches.
-
Prepare the Batter: In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
-
Dip & Fry: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or oil. Dip each sandwich into the batter, coating both sides. Place on the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes per side.
-
Serve: Cut in halves or quarters, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with your favorite toppings.
Notes
-
Make them extra indulgent by adding chocolate chips or Nutella with the cream cheese.
-
Use day-old bread for better structure and crispiness.
-
Can be baked instead of fried for a slightly lighter version.
