Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee (enhances the chocolate flavor)

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 3 cups powdered sugar

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (adjust for consistency)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

For Decoration:

  • Chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or cocoa powder dusting

  • Optional: whipped cream, caramel drizzle, or chopped nuts

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a large bowl, beat together granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth.

  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing gently.

  5. Stir in hot coffee slowly—the batter will be thin, which is perfect.

Step 2: Bake the Cake

  1. Divide batter evenly between pans.

  2. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  3. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 3: Make the Frosting

  1. Beat softened butter until smooth and creamy.

  2. Gradually mix in powdered sugar and cocoa, alternating with cream.

  3. Stir in vanilla and salt; beat until fluffy and spreadable.

Step 4: Assemble & Decorate

  1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting over the top.

  2. Add the second layer and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  3. Decorate with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or your choice of toppings.

Final Touch:
Make a wish, slice, and serve to smiles all around!
