Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni

  • 3 cups broccoli florets

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (for topping)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter (for topping)


Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Cook macaroni according to package instructions. In the last 2 minutes of cooking, add broccoli florets. Drain and set aside.

  • In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.

  • Gradually add milk and cream, whisking until smooth. Cook until the mixture thickens.

  • Stir in cheddar and Parmesan cheeses, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until cheese is melted.

  • Combine cheese sauce with cooked macaroni and broccoli. Mix well and pour into prepared baking dish.

  • In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with olive oil or melted butter. Sprinkle over the top.

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown on top.

  • Let cool slightly before serving.

  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta for dietary preferences.

  • Add cooked chicken or bacon for extra protein.

  • Substitute cauliflower for broccoli if desired.
